From Poor Posture to Upright and Connected

“I started FP to try and address my poor posture and the persistent pains in my lower back and knees. Since working with Shane I have really had to reflect on the daily habits and patterns that had been making me so uncomfortable in my own body. Prior to this I had been generally eating healthy and exercising with Pilates and yoga, however the improvements I have felt in my posture and wellbeing since stating FP in September 2021 have been incomparable. I think it has a lot to do with how focused Shane is on ensuring the specific and precise execution of each movement to engage and work the whole body in an integrated manner. You leave feeling both exhausted and energised, I always have an extra bounce in my step after training. I feel I have also gained a sense of purpose and drive to develop and maintain better mobility, strength, and balance well into my older age.” 

Chronic Pain Eliminated

“I originally came to FP in early 2021 for a bad shoulder injury that was persistent despite the numerous visits to different physios. As a cricketer this took a severe toll on my ability to play cricket and bowl. Once Shane had identified the real problems with my posture and the way I move, he was able to set out and fix them, recommending I stop bowling for at least 6 months. Coming back into bowling after that break there was a dramatic increase in comfort and overall ability to bowl. The main difference was my ability to bowl without pain, but also I was able to be a better bowler, bowling both faster and for longer periods.

Shane and FP have also helped with my ability to move in day to day life without pain. My overall well-being has drastically improved since joining FP and I look forward to seeing even more result in the future.

Post-Surgery Scoliosis Improvements

“I’ve been training with Shane at functional patterns for 6 months now to help with my scoliosis pain. I’ve had significantly reduced levels of pain and a visibly straighter back. Courtney had a 55deg curve T6-T11 before having spinal fusion in 2002 via right thoracotomy, bringing the curve back to 7deg. A second curve developed in 2018 from T5 - L2 40deg which we can see has shown some change. With a steel rod in her t-spine we are obviously limited in how much we can change her spine, nevertheless her quality of life is improving as we move her structure closer to neutral.

“Much appreciation to Shane who trained me. After 3.5 years of chronic shoulder pain, pre and post surgery. I am now pain free and able to to do multiple reps, not just 2! 3.5 years of rehab does not compare to 4 months with fp!

This was not the only correction Shane made. With attention to detail he corrected many issues. I now walk and live my life more functionally, with intention and no more aches and pains!

Correcting Gait Asymmetries to Improve Posture and Confidence

Rehydrating and Turning Back the Clock

Before is April 2018 at hbs2 I was suffering lower back pain as well as on and off pain in my left knee. Mentally I wasn’t on top of things. I weighed about 73kg.
After Is Dec2019 I’m no longer in pain, I feel much more connected and competent, sprinting feels therapeutic now and I feel more balanced mentally. I weigh 78kg about 3kg of that growth is lean muscle.
Functional Patterns is the only way to recover and optimise the functions that make us human. Looking forward to making more upgrades in this skin suit. .

20 years Chronic Feet and Back Pain to Running Again

“I was introduced to FP by an Ex. Phys friend with an open mind. I have always followed traditional approaches to my training and movement patterns. My injury management has also been status quo. I’ve had approx 20 FP sessions with Shane which has been a combination of release work and movement pattern training. I have not run for over 21 years and was forced to retire due to major ruptures of my plantar fascia in both feet. Two surgeons wouldn’t operate on me and one gave me a 5% chance of recovery post surgery. I recall the Morning I woke after training and couldn’t walk to the toilet due to the pain in my feet. I was prescribed orthotics to manage my foot pain. I am far from achieving my goals, but I have been able to return to short interval running/walking sessions a few times per week, and feel more connected when I move. I am not using my orthotics anymore. I’ve also seen a decrease in lower back pain when doing my other activities. I ride a bike because I couldn’t run so It’s nice to think I can incorporate running into my lifestyle going forward.
