Why FP Surf Coast

An integrated approach to posture

Integrated Approach

We see the entire body as an integrated system, not just a body of symptoms. We use gait (movement) and posture analysis to identify the root causes of poor posture. We use integrated movements and a highly trained eye to correct these imbalances.

Lasting Results

Most posture work is ‘active’ or temporary. Passive treatments such as posture braces or posture bras do not treat the root cause of poor posture. Functional Patterns fixes posture at its core and therefore provides long-lasting results.

Real Results

We pride ourselves on achieving continual, meaningful results with our clients. You will never be ‘just a number.’ Our entire business model is based around getting excellent results and testimonials. If in doubt, take a look at Functional Patterns long list of case studies and before and afters.

Functional Patterns vs Postural Physiotherapy

At Functional Patterns, we have found that certain postures cause neck pain, body aches and muscle fatigue. We have seen that certain postures have a negative overall health outcome.

Physio for posture is a fairly common approach to support correct posture. Physiotherapists utilise tools such as:

  • Posture exercises
  • Stretching
  • Joint mobilisation
  • Strength training
  • Elastic therapeutic tape
  • Ergonomic advice
  • Loosening and strengthening stiff joints
  • Manual therapy

While most of these tools are great, people often find little change to their posture overtime.

At Functional Patterns, we see the body as an integrated system. We see that the way we move has the largest effect on our neutral posture. The muscles we use or don’t use throughout the day, and the way we use these muscles, determines our posture.

If you are experiencing back pain, neck pain or shoulder pain, you need to look at how you are moving. Rather than jumping straight into strengthening exercises, we seek to understand what lead to poor posture in the first place.

We achieve this by analysing your gait cycle (the way you walk or run). Seeing your gait in slow motion allows us to find muscle imbalances, asymmetries and abnormal factors in your movement. Our training then seeks to adjust postural habits by training balanced and efficient movement patterns.

So, while posture correction physiotherapy may work for some, Functional Patterns works for just about everyone.

Your aches and pains associated with bad posture do not have to stick around. Analyse your walking and standing posture, then exercise to fix your movement patterns and improve your posture.
